Josh is a superb percussionist and an excellent bandleader. He took on both roles as part of Circus Smirkus' 2018 tour, leading the live musicians, triggering recorded tracks, and responding to an ever-changing live performance in real time. It's a rare individual who can tackle these disparate tasks all at once, and Josh more than up to the task. I recommend him highly.

"Josh Mcewen is an ideal collaborator. From the first performance with Josh it felt like we'd played together for years. Playing with Josh is effortless as a bandleader not only because he puts in the work ahead of time, but also because he's flexible in situations that arise in touring and performing. "

Josh Mcewen is a truly fine musician. When we worked together he performed my orchestrations beautifully, in the true professional form. He is a delight to work with.

Traveling as a solo guest entertainer I have experienced many, many drummers in many different sized bands; the mere fact that I recall Josh Mcewen and his playing from the hundreds over the years speaks volumes. He is a fine musician with a good attitude and great chops!

I have worked with Josh on Regent Seven Seas cruise line. He was a Bandleader in our 10 piece band. From the first day till the last day of this contract it was absolute pleasure to work with him. As a drummer, Josh is a highly professional and mature musician. His timing is immaculate, and his sense of groove is awesome. With Josh on drums the band felt secure and confident.
As a Bandleader Josh was always punctual, attentive and diplomatic. He was always hardworking and through the contract was always giving our band a lot of great material to play.
I was honoured to work with such a great musician. I hope one day I will work with Joshua again.

I highly recommend Josh for any kind of percussion or drum playing or style, whatever the genre. He is a consummate musician with killer chops and timing, as well as a great sense of space and dynamics in his playing. He also has an intuitive understanding of how his playing needs to work with the song, bringing everything together in groove, tempo, and what I can only describe as "drama" from low to high and back again as needed. Like some bizarre Typhoid Mary of musical joy and liveliness, his love of music, his art, and his craft spills out of him whenever he plays, infecting everyone around him and elevating the whole performance. He is easy to work with, fun to be around, can mine his extensive experiences to tell you some of the funniest stories you can imagine, and is a straight-up genuine good guy, full of warmth and friendliness. In a town full of great players, Josh wins for also being a great person too.

Josh nails the three important points of being a musician in Nashville. Musicianship, great hang and showmanship/image. You learn a lot from touring with people and I just can't say enough about what a great guy and musician Josh is and how effortless it was traveling with him. He comes prepared and has a solid groove and great dynamics. All of that with zero attitude or ego.
